RESEARCH & BENCHMARK

The investigation phase consisted on a benchmark analysis of several subway apps in different cities, seven interviews carried out with people living in Madrid from 17 to 52 years old, and a focus group performed to validate the conclusions previously deducted.

SIMPLICITY IS THE KEY

My biggest concern while designing the app was that it had to convey the expectations of smartphone users as well as adapt to the needs and limitations of those who are not used to technology and gadgets.

To do so, I established a simple home page where the user could get the most relevant information in regards of his or her journey. In this way, the app substitutes the traditional physical cards by means of NFC technology.

In the home page, thanks to the power of IoT, the user would also receive important notifications that may imply a change in his or her route, by analyzing his or her routine and specific conditions like traffic jams, congested subway stations or the weather.

Apart from the main screen, the app also counts with secondary functionalities that will facilitate and empower the user. Specifically, the analysis screen will provide information regarding how much money has spent, which is the best travel pass according to how much he or she uses public transportation, or the carbon footprint that the user has generated by taking the bus or riding a public bike instead of driving a car.
