Bamboo

BAMBOO

A shaving ritual inspired on my last trip to Japan and the principles of Zen philosophy. The intention behind Bamboo was to merge traditional grooming as inherited from Great Britain with traditional elements from to the Japan.

DESIGN PROCESS

INSPIRATION

The Bamboo set follows the steps and rhythms of the Japanese Tea Ceremony in a different context, by using the elements of any barbershop around Camden Town.

To do so, I redesigned the tools —but not the razor— that were originally part of shaving but have been substituted by others which may be more convenient but do not bring value and meaning to the experience of shaving.

BAMBOO

These elements, their colours, materials and textures, are inspired by traditional Zen Gardens and other icons from the Japanese culture like bamboo trees. The tray, for example, serves to prepare the foam in a way that imitates the gestures of mixing powdered tea and water during the Tea Ceremony.
